Discover one of China’s most legendary street foods in this hands-on Chinese cooking class in London.
In this workshop you’ll learn how to make Rou Jia Mo, often called the “Chinese Burger.” This iconic street food comes from the historic city of Xi’an and is loved across China for its combination of crispy flatbread and rich braised meat filling.
Despite the playful nickname, Rou Jia Mo has a history stretching back thousands of years, making it one of the world’s oldest street food sandwiches.
Guided by your chef, you’ll learn how this famous dish evolved and why it remains a favourite across China today.
Classes take place in a spacious, air-conditioned cooking studio with small group sizes, ensuring plenty of individual guidance. Weekday sessions are often quieter and may even become private classes.
What You’ll Cook
During this hands-on workshop you will prepare an authentic Rou Jia Mo meal from scratch, including:
  • Traditional Chinese Crispy Flatbread (Mo) – preparing the dough and cooking the bread
  • Braised Pork Belly Filling – rich, slow-cooked and packed with flavour
  • Learning essential techniques from knife skills to dough preparation
  • Assembling your Rou Jia Mo “Chinese burger” just like street vendors in Xi’an
You will then enjoy your freshly made dishes during the class or take them home.
Dietary Options
The traditional version uses pork and pork lard to create the signature crispy bread and filling.
Alternative options are available:
  • Vegan version with shiitake mushroom filling
  • Non-pork option with soft bread instead of crispy lard pastry
Please inform your teacher when booking if you would prefer the vegan option.

Allergy & Dietary Information
Please inform your teacher of any dietary requirements when booking.
Key ingredients include:
  • Gluten (essential in the bread)
  • Soy sauce used in the braised filling
  • Sesame, peanut or celery may be used in sauces but can often be avoided
The traditional recipe includes pork and pork lard, but a vegan shiitake mushroom version is available.
