This class is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of Chinese natural dyes and their application to various fabrics. Our instructor will guide you through each step of the dyeing process, ensuring you develop both confidence and skill.
In this course, you will:
  • Learn how to build up your indigo vat.
  • Explore various natural dyeing techniques and how to apply them effectively to different types of fabric.
  • Follow a detailed, step-by-step process to create patterns on your fabric.
  • Discover the indigo dyeing techniques of the Chinese Miao Minority.
Whether you are a beginner or have some experience with textile arts, this class will provide valuable insights and techniques to enhance your craft. By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge and skills to create stunning, naturally dyed fabrics with confidence.
This workshop will be taught through Teams, and you will receive our indigo dyeing kit by post once you purchase the class, which includes all materials to build your indigo vat. To ensure the kit arrives on time, please book the class at least one week in advance.
We encourage you to prepare 2-3 pieces of fabric for this class. Please note that natural dyes normally only work on natural fibres such as cotton, linen, silk, and wool. If you would like to buy some fabric, feel free to contact us for a recommendation.
